Better Care Together Careers & Engagement Hub Has Been Showcased By NHS Employers’

The work of the Bay Health and Care Partners (BHCP) Careers & Engagement Hub has been showcased by NHS Employers’.

The monthly engagement briefs from the National Engagement Service are shared with Workforce Directors across the country. In the April newsletter the BHCP Engagement Hub Team were proud to see their projects and events highlighted as good practice in this way.

The Engagement Hub offer a huge amount of work experience opportunities for people of all ages across Morecambe Bay. Some of their key recent projects include;

  • Physiotherapy Degree Sponsorship Project – Working in partnership with the Physiotherapy Team, they liaised with schools in the area to offer a sponsored Physiotherapy Degree to two local people – one in Barrow-in-Furness and one in Lancaster. Their degrees will be fully funded, and they have a guaranteed job at the end of it.

  • Pre-employment programmes – The team are now running pre-employment programmes for unemployed adults across The Bay. The Lancaster programme had 14 successful completions, five of whom are now employed by UHMBT. The Barrow programme is still ongoing with 13 people currently on placement.  The Kendal version is expected to commence in September this year.

  • Under 16 work experience weeks – Due to their popularity the team will be running five under 16 work experience weeks throughout 2018. These are week long activities for students who are interested in finding out about careers in healthcare.  During the week students meet members of staff and participate in practical sessions to learn clinical skills and discover the types of skills, qualifications and values that are required in different careers within the NHS.

  • Armed Forces Insights Day – The team are inviting veterans to UHMBT at an event in July to find out about prospective careers. The aim is that they will hopefully be inspired to apply for roles in the Trust as UHMBT want to show them that they have valuable and transferrable skills from working in the Armed Forces.

David Wilkinson, Director of People and Organisational Development said: “I am so proud of the BHCP Careers and Engagement Hub, they put a huge about of work into inspiring and attracting new recruits.

“From January 2018 – present the team have engaged with 4017 local people interested in a career at UHMBT. Also during this time they have offered 128 work experience placements for people aged 16+.”
